59 min 60 sec is story of the last one hour of the life. The play starts with a hide-out scene where six young men have taken shelter. On the surface they seem to be full of life but as the play moves on we find out that these young men are naxalites and they have hid here to complete an operation. Operation is successful and they want to celebrate it and at this very moment they are surrounded by the army. Confusion sets in the hide out. Army commander gives them a time of 59 mins 60 sec to surrender and from here the play progresses in its real time.
Everyone decides that they will not surrender and will live the last one hour of their life to the fullest and will take their own lives before the army barges in. From here starts there contradiction regarding life, they discuss everything from party ideology to relations. Everyone starts to analyze their past life in the dying moments of their life. At one point time the play is filled with guilt and grief. In this series of analysis and synthesis there is catharsis and purification. The play ends on a philosophical note where there is death but it does not invoke fear. It is a celebration, a kind of fulfillment. The play is not written on the lines of Naxalite ideology. The play’s thrust is on life not on death.
