CHANDIGARH, SEPT 6:Left arm spinner Varun Khanna returned a rich haul of 10 wickets for 40 runs against Zone – A and enabled Mohali District to post an outright win and secure three full points in the Punjab Inter-District Cricket Tournament for the Katoch Shield here today.
Varun Khanna who had scalped four wickets in the first innings, was straightaway on the throat of Zone A bBatsmen and accounted for fhe first six wickets which fell at a dismal total of 47 runs. Thereafter medium pacer Harmeet took over and completed the demolition act by accounting for the last for wickets reducing Zone – A to 65 for all in 30.3 overs.
The fine bowling effort of the duo of Varun Khanna and Harmeet enabled Mohali District to post an innings and 61 runs win. Overnight rains had delayed the start and the match was only played after lunch.

Overnight rains prevented any play at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium and the umpires called off the match between Chandigarh and Ludhiana. Chandigarh secured two points on account of their first innings lead which they got yesterday. Brief scores: Jalandhar: (Ist innings) 96 all out in 45.5 overs. Chandigarh (Ist innings): 203 for 3 iIn 47 overs.
The third match at trhe Dhruv Pandove Stadium in Patiala was also abandoned due to overnight rains As the first innings could not be completed the teams got one point each.
In Ludhiana, Ludhiana and Zone B split points. Overnight rains delayed the start and at close, Zone-B, which resumed from overnight 36 for 4 went to score 159 for 7. Amrinder Brar (65) and Hitesh Anand (59) were the main contributors to the Zone B’s total.
