Reporters Club, Carmel Convent School,14 August :Spreading awareness on environment and pledging to boycott plastic bags, Carmel students celebrated a week long celebration of ‘Van mahaotsav’ that concluded on Aug14th.It aimed at educating the future citizens of India about the significance of the environment.The week long celebrations aimed at motivating the students on how to save environment and showing the hazards created by abusing our mother earth.There were discussions,surveys,bulletin board competitions,plays,songs and a huge exhibition of various projects made on environment in which the whole school participated .The environment exhibition provided a forum to the budding environmentalist to showcase their talents.
Students displayed extraordinary talent by making huge projects like Bio gas which was a static model of a Bio gas plant, manually working model of Acid rain and a huge model of school showing solar cells installed in school. The project on global warming really got noticed and the presentation was worth watching.Pre-eliminiary round was held in school on Aug5 &Aug7 to select the best models. Each 1 ,Teach 1,Plant 1 was promoted as each class planted 50 tree saplings to commemorate Carmel’s Golden jubilee year.A cultural programme was organized by the members of Eco .A TV show was organized in which two environmentalist tried to show the kind of life we will have in year 2050, if we do not take strong steps to save guard mother earth immediately.They also showed various agents by which earth is being degraded .
Mr.Ishwar Singh,(Director environment -IFS warden of wildlife Chandigarh.) was invited as the chief guest.He really praised the efforts put in by Eco club in spreading awareness on different environment issues.He stressed on the importance of taking initiative and saving the environment.
