Chandigarh, March 7:- To eradicate the Child Labour fromChandigarh Union Territory, Chandigarh Administration hasdecided to assign the power of labour inspector with the schoolprincipals and head master of government schools.
UT Home and Labour Secretary Mr. Krishna Mohan said that the step has been taken to stop the child labour effectively. He said that the labour deportment of Chandigarh Administration do not had the sufficient staff to check the child labour, so the principal and head master of government schools have been assigned with the power of labour inspector. A notification to this effect has also been issued. Mr. Krishna Mohan said that 947 children between age group of 6-14 years have been found to be engaged in different activities at Chandigarh and these children are covered under child labour act 1986. Mr. Mohan said that it has been found that these children are not attending schools because of financial constrain and these children are also been exploited. Home Secretary said that Sarv Siksha Abhiyan along with the Education Deportment is giving all kind of help to the children between the age group of 6-14 years e.g. free-books, uniform, mid-day meal and incentives of Rs 250/- per month per child.
