Y.S. Rana ,Chandigarh, Feb 23 : The Chandigarh Administration organized a special function to honor the outstanding sportspersons and their coaches who have brought laurels to the city at National level tournaments. The function was held at Tagore Theater, Sector 18, Chandigarh on Wednesday.
The Adviser to the Administrator, Mr. Pradip Mehra was the chief guest on the occasion. He gave away the cash prizes to the sportspersons.
Addressing the gathering Mr. Mehra highlighted the role of sports in human life. He praised the sportspersons and the coaches for their contribution to make the city beautiful proud in the field of sports. He also appreciated the steps taken by Sports Department to facilitate the sportspersons. He said that our city has an extensive sports infrastructure of which we are immensely proud of. While addressing the present gathering Mr. Mehra stressed on the need for proper maintenance of these facilities. He also highlighted the role that a coach plays in the making of a good sportsperson by streamlining their raw talent. Mr. Mehra also discussed the future plans for improving the sports facilities in the city.
Finance Secretary Mr. V.K.Singh also congratulated the players and the coaches present at the function.
Director Sports, Mr. M.L. Sharma, presented a vote of thanks. He said that sports teaches us time management and contributes in the making of good citizens.
In today’s function Rs. 25, 54,000 were given to the sportspersons and their coaches from as many as 19 different sports. The team led by Mr. Ajoy Sharma, which secured the third position at the All India Civil Service Tennis Tournament held at Bhopal was also felicitated on this occasion.
Joint Director Sports, Mr. J.P.S. Sidhu, coaches and the sportspersons from various institutes were also present on the occasion.
