CHANDIGARH, AUG 24 :Table Soccer got a big shot in the arm as the Chandigarh Education Department has decided to introduce it in its sports calendar. Disclosing this here today, DPI (Schools) SK Setia said that the Education Department would conduct inter-school table soccer tournaments and it would be included in the regular sports activities of Chandigarh schools.
Training will be imparted in various schools and technical assistance of Table Soccer Federation of India would be sought.
Setia announced the steps to promote table soccer during a function organized by the Table Soccer Federation of India to honour international players who have brought laurels to the country. The players and officials, who accompanied them in various international meets were, honoured by Minister of State for Finance Pawan Kumar Bansal.
Meanwhile, the DPI (Schools) said that Chandigarh students who had won medals or participated in international tournaments would be felicitated on the occasion of the National Sports Day on August 29, the birth day of Indian hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand. The Government of India has declared the birthday of Dhyan Chand as the National Sports Day which is celebrated throughout India.
"All outstanding sportspersons of Chandigarh schools would also be honoured at the function to be conducted at Government Girls College, Sector 11 on August 29," said Setia who has streamlined sports activities in Chandigarh schools.
