Chandigarh,22 July : Thunderous applause greeted the toppers of X and XII of the Education Department, U.T., Chandigarh at Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector -10, Chandigarh. The occasion was an impressive function organized to felicitate the children who had brought laurels to their parents and schools by their outstanding performance in AISSSE and AISSCE-2008.
Honourable Shri Sanjay Kumar(I.A.S.), Finance cum Education Secretary, U.T. Chandigarh was the chief guest for the occasion. Mr. S. K. Setia(H.C.S.) DPI Schools welcomed the chief guest and also gave the details about those being honoured.
About 89 students from X and XII from both rural and urban schools were honoured at the function. Two toppers one each from the urban and rural schools were presented with laptops by the Department.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest Shri Sanjay Kumar lauded the efforts of the teachers and the Principals whose efforts had borne fruit. He also hoped that the other students would emulate the examples of these toppers. He had a special mention and appreciation of the students who despite financial and personal constraints had come out with flying colours and done their schools proud.
He mentioned that from the next session, 10 toppers( 5 boys and 5 girls)each from urban and rural schools stream- wise(science, commerce, humanities and vocational) would be honoured with laptops by the department. Not only this,for the students of class X, 2 toppers (1 boy and 1 girl) each from urban and rural schools would also be given laptops by the department. The story does not end here. Apart from this, one topper girl one boy of each school from Board classes V, VIII and X would be rewarded with a bicycle by the school itself. He mentioned that any outstanding extraordinary achievement by any student would also be recognized and appreciated. Adding to the joy of all, he proposed to have air conditioned offices for all the Principals of Sr. Sec. Schools who have some toppers.
He said that the auditoriums of the schools would be repaired and air conditioned as well. The audience was all praises when he made a mention of the long awaited promotions to be done as early as possible including those of Heads and Principals and Deputy Director and additional DEO.
A brochure on the outstanding achievers was also released on the occasion. Appreciation certificates were also given to the Principals who had worked relentlessly for the upliftment of their institutions. In the end, a vote of thanks was given by the DEO, Mrs. Khushinder Sharma who thanked every one for the success of this novel venture.
