CHANDIGARH-June 17, 2011: A team of 20 dedicated students of University Institute of Chemical Engineering & Technology (UICET) in collaboration with SIFE India is working for the upliftment of the forgotten ones of the society, both socially and economically. The team works on the principle of “MANTLING THE EXPERTISE”. The journey started with the project “INNOVATION” which had flabbergasting successes at sector-17 Chandigarh and PCA-Mohali. The next milestone which followed was its collaboration with “JAN SHIKSHAN SANSTHAN” (MHRD, GOVT. Of INDIA) which provided technical education to the poor people from Sector-38 and Sector-25. The team also organized a waste cloth collection drive in Sector-15. The team has also collaborated with a group of 25 ladies who are highly skilled and can stitch beautifully from everything to anything but face problems in keeping up with latest trends and working with age old marketing practices. SIFE UICET has even planned to organize an exhibition at Mohayal Bhawan, Sector-24 (Opposite Batra Theatre) on Sunday, June 19 from 10.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. The exhibition will display the kurtas that are designed by the ladies with proper promotion and advertisement. The exhibition will have paintings gallery that are beautifully drawn by the SIFE UICET members with a sole objective to attract maximum attention.
SIFE UICET is further planning to make collaborations with local NGOs for four new projects namely “PRITHKARAN” which deals with providing financial literacy to the poor, “PRAVEENATA” which aims at promoting and developing artistic skills and “VRIHAAT” for equipping them with the knowledge about electrical appliances. We hope that this unique idea and this dedicated team get what they deserve, Prof. V.K. Rattan, Chairperson, University Institute of Chemical Engineering & Technology informed.
