Chandigarh, July 10:The tricity is all set to be the next Silicon Valley with collective efforts of the state governments of Punjab and Haryana, and the Chandigarh Administration, feels Mr. M.S. Brar, Director Information Technology, Chandigarh Administration.
The upbeat spirit of the tricity can be gauged from the fourth edition of eRevolution 2008, the mega IT event, which shall address the theme of ‘The Changing Landscape: Creating new trends and opportunities’.
Making tri-city the best IT destination in the country is the unique collective will of all the three governments which are working together to put into place world-class ecosystem to encourage entrepreneurship, and innovation in the region through a mutually supportive seamless collaboration, says Mr Brar.
The ideas of international airport, cyber security and research centre, entrepreneurship development centre, had emerged out of the deliberations in the last three eRevolutions that brought together the best brains together including Mr. Kiran Karnik, President, NASSCOM, Mr. Mohan Das Pai, HRD Director, Infosys, Ms. Naina Lal Kidwai, CEO of HSBC, Mr. Saurabh Srivastava, founder of Band of Angels and President TiE, Delhi, Mr. Laxmi Narayan, President & CEO of Cognizant Technology Solutions India, to name a few. All these facilities have been put into place and the work is already been initiated for upgradation of the city airport.
Chandigarh alone has seen an increase in the software exports from Chandigarh alone from a mere Rs.57 crores in 2004-05 to Rs.400 crores in 2007-08, and according to STPI, the figure is expected to cross Rs.4500 crores by 2011, providing employment to around 65,000 people.
More than 700 delegates are expected to participate in eRevolution this year which is scheduled to be held on August 7-8, which is being co-hosted by Governments of Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh Administration, and the STPI, with Nasscom, Indian Angels Network, and TiE (The Indus Entrepreneur) joining in as knowledge partners.
