Dr.Avnish Jolly,17 June:A shining star extinguished on 13th June, 2008, her works remains with us and motivate us to work for people. Smt Satyavati was founder member of Mahila Parishad and remained its president for four years.
She participated in Swadeshi movement during freedom struggle. After independence she was associated with Sarvodaya movement led by Vinoba Bhave and Jai Prakash Narayan. She worked relentlessly day and night for Red Cross during 1965 Indo-Pak war.
She was an active member of Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, Sector 16, and also founded Arya Samaj in Sector 27-C, Chandigarh. She was a Sanskrit scholar and taught Hindi and Sanskrit in Moti Ram Arya Senior Sec School for several years.
Smt Satyavati was a very humble and learned woman, a dedicated social worker and a true Ghandhian. She dedicated her whole life for the upliftment of women through Arya Samaj. To diminish the difference between son and daughter, she entitled her daughter to perform her last rites, instead of her sons. According to her wishes, her ashes were buried in a pit and a sapling was planted over it, rather than dispersing them in the river Ganga as it just adds to water pollution. She is survived by four children, two are accomplished doctors, one an engineer and another a professor.
A prayer meeting will be held to pay homage to her departed soul on 20th June 2008 at 2 pm in Arya Samaj Mandir, Sector 27-C, Chandigarh.
