By Anuj Bhalla,21 March, 2012 : The Chandigarh Police in collaboration with the Institute of Correctional Administration. Chandigarh has successfully organized a three-days State level Training of Trainer (ToT) Programme on ‘Anti-Human Trafficking’ for the officers of Chandigarh Police Department. Health, Labour, Prosecution and Social Welfare Departments and also NGOs from 19” March to 21s‘ March, 2012. 44 officers were trained in this training programme.
Renowned experts from the country addressed to the participants on various issues related to Human Trafficking. Dr. K.P. Singh, IPS, Inspector General of Prisons. Haryana discussed laws and Procedures related to human trafficking issues. Dr. Sunitha Krishnan, General Secretary. Prajawala — An NGO, Hyderabad delivered lecture on ‘Post Rescue and Rehabilitation of Survivors of Trafficking and Psycho-Social Intervention for survivors of trafficking.
Prajawala – An NGO has effectively worked towards rehabilitation for victims especially in Andhra Pradesh. Dr. Sunitha Krishnan shared experiences about her work with the participants. This NGO has so far rescued 7800 victims of trafficking. Mr. Bhuwan Ribhu, Secretary, Bachpan Bachao Aandolan, New Delhi spoke on Labour trafficking issues and shared experiences about the cases of bonded labour dealt by Bachpan Bachao Aandolan.
The valedictory address was given by Mr. Alok Kumar, IPS. Deputy Inspector General of Police, UT, Chandigarh. He shared his personal experiences and urged the participants to be more proactive and sensitive while dealing with cases relating to human trafficking and play their role effectively and efficiently. He also asked participants to become change agents. Mr. R.S. Ghumman, IPS, Superintendent of Police (Operations), UT Chandigarh was also present at the time of valedictory function. Dr. Upneet Lalli, Deputy Director, ICA thanked the Police Department for helping in successfully conducting this course. The participants of this course appreciated this programme and undertook to sensitize the others about this issue.
