26 July : As a part of golden jubilee celebrations, Carmelites enjoyed the laughter verse at an intra-school Competition held at Carmel Convent School, Sector 9 on 26th July, 2008.The "Hasya kavi samhelan" was an endeavor to encourage Hindi as a language amongst the students.
The participants got acquainted with the funny side of their character to set the audience rollicking with laughter. It was the brainchild of Mrs.Verma,Mrs.Lajwanti and Mrs.Gupta who are the senior Hindi teachers at Carmel .According to Mrs.Verma "We wanted to show the children an interesting side of Hindi and encourage them to grasp the language much better."
The atmosphere didn’t confine the students to make a serious opinion over the ‘so-called’ monotonous topics as considered by the teens like politics, everyday life, lectures, grades etc.
Students were given an amazing forum to showcase their skill sets of poetry, acting along with humor. A class 9th student, Urvashi said "It was really funny listening to all the participants and they really made us laugh."
The participants were judged on the basis of their ability to make people laugh and enact what they were reciting. The students left everyone reeling with laughter with their poetry.
Sr.Maria Christi, The principal of Carmel Convent said "Carmel in different ways is trying to help students to come up with their bottled up unique talents. "The result are as follows: Group I, Pranvika Bedi (1st ) Gursahiba Gill and Sharon Sharpe (2nd), Keerat Kaur Virk and Prerna Sharma (3rd), Group II, Mugdha Manni (1st), Sunaina Kaul (2nd), Garima Yadav (3rd).
