The India Post, Chandigarh: August 6, 2008: The DAV and MCM College Teachers’ Unions have welcomed the decision of the DAV College Governing Bodies to grant provident fund on total salary and earned leave encashment to the teachers of all the DAV Colleges in Chandigarh and Punjab affiliated to the Panjab University as per the University calendar. It may be noted that these were the long pending demands of the employees of these colleges for which they have been struggling for the last more than two years.
In a statement Prof. A. K. Taneja and Prof. Anil Sarwal, President and Secretary of the DAV College, Chandigarh, said, "Our first thoughts of gratitude are for the untiring efforts put in by Prof. R. C. Sobti, Vice Chancellor of the Panjab University to get the statutory provisions of the University implemented. We also thank the Director, Higher Education, UT Administration, Mrs. Raji P Srivastava for actively pursuing the matter and getting the same resolved."
Prof. Avanindra Chopra, Staff Secretary, DAV College, Chandigarh said that without the active support from both the Vice Chancellor and the Director, Higher Education it would have been impossible to get these long pending demands fulfilled. He further said that the Staff Unions have achieved a glorious success and thanked each member of the teaching and non-teaching for their unflinching support.
The Union leaders have thanked the leadership of the Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers’ Union, Prof. Iqbal Singh and Prof. Jagwant Singh, President and Secretary respectively, for their active and whole hearted support for the realisation of these just demands.
Prof. Uma Joshi, President of the MCM DAV College Teachers’ Union, said that the step taken by the Governing Bodies of the two colleges would go a long way to restore positive atmosphere in the colleges. Prof. Rakesh Mehta and Prof. Ravinder Chatha, President and Secretary of the Chandigarh District Council of the PCCTU said that by fulfilling these demands of the Governing Body has shown its willingness to create a harmonious relationship between the teachers and the management.
The Union leaders also thanked Prof. Rabindra Nath, Prof. PS Gill, Prof. SS Hundal, Prof. Tarsem Bahia, Senators of the Panjab University and all others for having supported the cause of the teachers in various University forums and thus supporting the just cause of the teachers.
