CHANDIGARH, SEPT 21 : Top seeded Tarush Sharma, plus 1 student of Government Model School, Sector 35 defeated Kenneth Wong of St John’s School-26 by 21-18, 21-9 to claim the boys Under-16 singles title in the 20th Yonex Chandigarh State Badminton Championship being organised by Chandigarh Badminton Club, affiliated to Chandigarh Badminton Association at the Government Model School in Sector 23 here today.
With good toss and powerful overhead smashes, Tarush clinched the title against Kenneth who had earlier stunned the second seed Rishab in the semi-final.
Top seed Kevin Wong took 27 minutes to dispose of the challenge of second seed Tushar Khurana by three well-contested games in the boys under-10 singles final. Kevin gave a consistent display to win by 19-21, 21-2, 21-17.
Second seed Chaitanaya overcame a stiff resistance form Robin Saini in the boys under-13 singles final. In a closely fought final, Chaitanaya won by 22-20, 21-23, 21-13.
Damandeep rallied to defeat Arshia Sethi to wear the girls under-10 crown as she won by 15-21, 21-17, 21-17.
Daaman Sharma and Mehak Sood proved a formidable pair as they claimed the girls under-13 doubles title by beating Kashish Singh and Sanya Sethi by 21-3, 21-5. Mehak Sood beat her doubles partner Daaman Sharma by 21-3, 21-6 in the girls under-13 singles final.
Mehak Sood completed a double as she defeated Shreya 15-21, 21-17, 21-19 in the girls under-16 final.
As roof of the the Sector 42 Badminton Hall was leaking, all finals were shifted to GMSSS in 23. The evening rain further disrupted the schedule.
