Barinder Saluja, Chandigarh ,Feb. 18 : Pakistan has been quite successful in producing quality music. This was once again proved by another Band named JAL, who have landed on the soil of another part of Punjab in India, from across the border, in the search of fame and success. The guest Rock Band were at a press conference at local restaurant TAO, where they shared their feelings & experiences with the media. The band consists of a trio – Gauhar Mumtaz (Vocals), Farhaan Saeed (Vocals) and Shazi (Instrumental), were very excited to perform in the city and country. While talking about their latest album, they said, “for the first time we have used tabla, dhol & proper beats with upper bass and treble in our songs, which is unlike JAL”. They are very much inspired by the legendary Indian gazal singer Jagjit Singh and sufi singer Nusrat Fatehali Khan. “We have grown up listening to them & do try to develop those quality singing aesthetics in us” said Farhaan, & from the bands genre, it is Euphoria, Parikrama and Junoon.
“The song which made us star over night was “Aadat” & was adjudged best song of the year. Woh Lamhe & Sajni were also hit of the year in 2008. And now we have come up with a special song for the Cricket World Cup i.e. Hamara Junoon Hai Hamari Udaan, which we are going to sing in the interval of Pakistan-Australia match in Sri Lanka on 19th march” said Gauhar. “Concerts in Pakistan are not like those in India; there in Pak if the gathering goes up to 7000 to 8000, we say that the concert was a hit, whereas in India 7000 gathering is peanuts. It raises to something like 15 to 20 thousand, that is what a performer is looking for” acclaimed Farhaan. They also urged their belief that the governments of both the nations should sit together and solve out the problem of visas so that it could be easy for the artists of both the countries to cross the borders and exchange their talents. They are quite enthusiastic about acting in the Bollywood films if given a chance, whether on screen or playback singers.
Spreading the message of peace, the boys from across the border are another die hard fans of Cricket. They said that though the National game of both the countries is Hockey, but we to hardly find people playing or practising Hockey in the fields in our country. Where ever one can see, it is cricket & cricket. People back in Pakistan worship cricket. “Well, in the last ten years the game and its audience has changed alot & have elevated themselves to a bit higher position. We do still have our crazy bit of fans, but no more suicides or violence’s or breaking of TV sets after a crucial match of Ind-Pak”.
When asked, that what do u predict the fate of Pakistan in this World Cup, Farhaan said,” Insha allah, we would love to see Pak-Ind semi final. But these guys are a mystery & they always come out with surprises as they did it by winning the T20 world Cup after being stated as minnows”.
JAL will be performing live in the disco of TAO restaurant, madhya marg, sector 26, Chandigarh on the evening of February 19.
