The India Post, Chandigarh, 12th November, 2008 :A talk on “Global Fight Against Human Trafficking: with Special Reference to India ” was organized in the Department of Sociology, Panjab University . Dr. Sangita Bhalla from the Department of Laws pointed out that trafficking is an important issue of Human Right violation, which has become rampant in the period after the breaking up of the Soviet Union and the post globalization era, both resulting in greater joblessness faced primarily by the marginalized groups. She added that although trafficking victimizes men too, but the main victims of this practice are women and children. The problem has yet to be resolved since state does not address it whole-heartedly. Also, despite the United Nations making efforts to confront the problem, lack of co-operation between different countries is hampering the solution of the problem of human trafficking according to Prof. S. Sabbarwal, Sociology Dept., P.U.
