CHANDIGARH: December 13: The Panjab University Syndicate today authorised the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. R.C. Sobti to carry out certain modifications/amendments in the regulations in PU Calendars whenever required in order to implement the recommendations of the Sixth Central Pay Commission and certain other UGC guidelines and for the implementation of Section 2(d) (iv) of the CEI Act, 2006.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed gratitude to all the Syndicate members for having extended full support and cooperation to him for taking the University to new heights. Prof. Sobti expected guidance from all the members for the growth of the prestigious university to achieve many new goals and new vision.
The Syndicate approved the appointment of Dr S.C. Verma and Dr S.B.Bhatia as Professor Emeritus in the Departments of Botany and Geology, respectively.
Also, in future all the teachers to be appointed in Colleges affiliated to Panjab University and P.U. Regional Centres in Punjab will be required to qualify Punjabi language up to matric standard necessarily. And in case of appointments made in Chandigarh he or she shall have to qualify Hindi or Punjabi compulsorily in case he or she does not possess the requisite qualification at the time of appointment. The teacher shall have to qualify the required language in two years failing which he or she will not be confirmed. In the wider interest of students this decision will also be applicable in future appointments made at Panjab University Chandigarh Campus.
All those teachers who are working in the Colleges affiliated to the Panjab University and P.U. Regional Centres (who do not have knowledge of Hindi and Punjabi)will be required to acquire a certificate having qualified Punjabi subject up to Matric standard, within a period of 3 (three) years.
The University may make necessary arrangements for teaching of Hindi and Punjabi by the respective Departments and conduct examination itself for issuance of certificate of having qualified in Hindi and Punjabi up to Matric standard.
The Syndicate approved the award of degrees of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) to the following candidates: Mr Vivek Verma, Ms Jyoti Sharma, Ms Preeti Jain, Ms Tripta, Ms Pushipinder Kaur, Ms Sabina Manchanda, Mr Hossein Nemat Zadeh Gara and Mr Suresh Chandra Yadawa.
