CHANDIGARH–July 28, 2008: Symposium on Cancer Stem Cell concluded today 28th July 2008. Five speakers from India and USA presented their work on different aspects of Stem Cells.
In the morning session Prof. D. Kaul from Head, Department of Experimental Medicine and Biotechnology, PGIMER deliberated on siRNA approach for the Leukemic Stem Cell: Seek to destroy.
This was followed by a talk by Dr. Alok C. Bharti, Scientist ‘D’ Institute of Cytology and Preventive Oncology (ICPO) on role of stem cell in cervical cancer treatment. Dr. Vidudala Prasad from USA deliberated upon role of
ceramide in neuronal stem cell differentiation. In the afternoon session Dr.Neelam Marwaha, Head, Department of Transfusion, PGIMER talk about the technical aspects of Stem Cell involving cryopreservation and their subculturing. Dr. Vivekanand Jha, Department of Nephrology discussed about the application of stem cell in renal tissue disorders.
The symposium concluded with the valedictory remarks by Prof. R.C. Sobti, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Prof. Sobti, stressed on the passion for total commitment on the part of students in any field of
education. Prof. Sobti also interacted with the students and asked their feed back about the symposia’s so as to provide the students the best academic feast which they aspire for in future. Prof. Awtar Krishan from Miami,Florida, USA suggested upon the need to have joint collaboration like these symposia’s and also to organize joint workshops to train the students and research scholars of Panjab University, and surrounding areas to cutting edge technologies and instruments and like cytometric analysis using flow cytometer that are mandatory for stem cell research. This according to Dr.Krishan would help the students to choose their career in this area of research. Lateral Prof. Krishan distributed certificates to the participants.
