Chandigarh, June 6th : Dr. SS Channy, I.A.S. Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce Punjab & Chairman, Northern India institute of Fashion Technology today unveiled SUVYAN 2011, the annual design collection show put together by the graduating students of the institute at Hotel Shivalikview, Sector 17, Chandigarh. Three years’ learning, toil, trials and tribulations culminated today at the annual final collection – Suvyan ’11. This final presentation is an integration of the learning that the students imbibe during their education at the institute. Through the media of colors, materials, finishes and techniques, students express individual statements as design solution. ‘Suvyan ‘11’ showcased 28 collections by graduating students of Textile Design and Technology. Each student had individually worked on a theme and presented the collection related to that theme in the show. An eminent jury comprising textile designers, industry experts and art proponents, was invited to evaluate the collection for the awards in the categories of Accessories, Draping and Home Furnishing.
Some of the best collections were of—- Kannu Priya who went to Satya Paul. She was inspired by Marine Life which she took as a theme for her collection. She worked on Digital Printing on Sarees and Scarves. Rajeev Kumar Singh went to Ravissant Pvt. Ltd. and was motivated by Beauty of History, Chintz and Depth of Dream which he has showcased in his collection. Vinay Singh went to Shingora Shawls, Ludhiana. He was required to develop a collection based on the theme of Exchange Program to Walsall College of UK. Richa Gandhi went to Nandi Exports, Delhi. She worked on the theme ‘Honeymoon’ and ‘Girl Fantasy’. She made a coordinated set of Bed Linens, Cushions and Curtains. Dr. S. S. Channy gave away the awards to the winners for putting up in their hard work and effort.
While addressing the media persons at Hotel Shivalikview, he said that keeping up its commitment for nurturing and promoting new talent in the Indian textile industry ‘Suvyan ‘11’ is a platform for the students of NIIFT to unveil their best creations. Each design presented is unique and reflects student’s reverence for art, culture and nature. He expressed confidence that they will contribute highly to put Indian textile on the world map. Mr. Sukhjit Singh Bains, I.A.S. Director General, NIIFT, Mohali and Director Industries & Commerce, Punjab said that India has a pool of young talent waiting to be tapped. Such events encourage new designers to dream big and chart out new avenues.
He wished the students all the best in their future endeavors. Mr. V. N. Mathur, Director, NIIFT, Mohali said that Suvyan ‘11’ is a true festival of textiles, where creative talent of the graduating batch of young designers is celebrated. It is the perfect platform which offers a significant step for the graduating students towards becoming the trendsetting designers, brand builders and technical consultants of tomorrow. He informed that NIIFT, Mohali, which was established in 1995 offers various courses catering to the needs of the garment industry.
The courses are- Fashion Design- A three year graduate diploma after 10+2. Garment Manufacturing Technology- A two year post graduate diploma after graduation. Textile Design- A three year graduate diploma after 10+2. Fashion Marketing & Management – A two year post graduate diploma after graduation. Besides Mohali, the institute has its centers at Ludhiana & Jalandhar.
