Chandigarh, October 21: Today in a programme organized by Yuvsatta & Peace Club of Government Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 10 A, noted environmentalist, Padma Vibhushan Sunder Lal Bahuguna addressed the students, teachers & prominent citizens. Prominent amongst those who were present on the occasion includes Anu Chatrath, Mayor, Chanchal Singh, DEO & Prof. ML Sharma, Chairman, Deptt. Of Gandhian Studies, Panjab University.
“The rulers should know that the Himalayas are for water and not for revenue,’ are the words of inspiration by Bahuguna to young students who were lucky to have an interaction with this living legend. He ignited the youngsters into actions to safeguard the ecological balance of nature.
Sunder Lal Bahuguna made the children aware of the facts that we have an aranya sanskriti (forest culture) so we should look towards the forest for inspiration. He stressed that the need of the hour is to enhance the forest cover in India. He also advocated 3A’s i.e. Austerity- We should consume less, Alternatives-every problem has a solution and its near you & Afforestation-tree farming will solve many problems.
On the occasion Bahuguna also honoured some prominent personalities who had made the just concluded International Youth Peace Festival a success and they were and they were Anu Chatrath, Mayor & Chairperson of the organizing committee of Peace Fest-2010, Chanchal Singh, DEO, Education Department, Dr. ML Sharma, Chairman, Department of Gandhian Studies, Panjab University, Iqbal Shergill, Director, Paragon Sr. Sec. School, SAS Nagar, Amit Roy from ‘Sip of Life’, Indira Beniwal, Principal, Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Richa Chhiber & Charanjit both Peace Club incharge from Dev Samaj College of Education, Preetinder Kaur, Peace Club incharge, GMSSS-8, Chandigarh, Sukhdev, Student leader of Panjab University & Ashish Rampal-a journalist.
Sunder Lal Bahuguna also planted saplings in the School premises & inspired the children to contribute to save environment. Parmod Sharma, Coordinator, Yuvsatta welcomed the guests and Indira Beniwal Principal of the School presented a vote of thanks.
