CHANDIGARH, December 9: The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh today welcomed the frank admission of the Deputy Chief Minister Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal that fake cases were registered against the Congress workers in Gidderbaha and hoped that the government will withdraw all the cases against the Congress workers registered out of sheer vendetta all over the state.
However, Capt Amarinder Singh clarified that this should not include the two cases registered against him which he will handle himself.
Referring to Mr Sukhbir’s admission at Gidderbaha on Wednesday that the former Finance Minister Manpreet Badal and his coterie got false cases registered against people, Capt Amarinder Singh maintained, same holds true about other 116 assembly segments across Punjab. “I hope the Deputy Chief Minister realises the truth about other constituencies as well and initiates the process of withdrawing all such cases registered for sheer vendetta”, he said.
The PCC President said, today Mr Sukhbir Badal might be attributing all the excesses against the people of Gidderbaha to his estranged cousin and Mr Manpreet Badal, but the matter of the fact remains that they are all the same. “While Mr Manpreet Badal did it in Gidderbaha, Mr Sukhbir Badal did it in rest of Punjab”, he pointed out, while adding, this only vindicates the Congress charges against the Akali-BJP government about victimising over 20,000 party workers all over the state.
Capt Amarinder Singh said, it would be better for this government to withdraw all these cases, as the Deputy Chief Minister has already admitted to their being politically motivated to target opponents. Otherwise, he added, these cases would be withdrawn in any case after the Congress forms the government in the state after next assembly elections.
