Sanjay Pahwa ,Chandigarh : Congress made a clean sweep in Mayoral elections 2013 by winning all the three top offices of Municipal Corporation. Subhash Chawla has been elected new Mayor, Kashmiri Devi as Senior Deputy Mayor, Satish Kainth has been re-elected as Deputy Mayor. On the occasion was present Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal and ex-Mayor Raj Bala Malik to congratulate the winning candidates.
For the post of Mayor Subhash Chawla of Congress got 24 votes with only 12 votes for Arun Sood of B.J.P. For the post of Senior Deputy Mayor Kashmiri Devi of Congress got 23 votes and 13 votes casted in favour of Rajesh Gupta. For the Deputy Mayor Satish Kainth got 21 votes with only 15 votes for B.J.P-Akali candidate Malkiet Singh. Subhash Chawla the newly elected Mayor,in his speech thanked the public for showing confidence in him for the post and said that he would work for the people of Chandigarh and in upliftment of down trodden by opening Schools for them and providing better hygienic conditions .
He said that “to make Chandigarh neat and clean he has proposed the recruitment of 319 regular sweepers with 650 on contract basis and above all 20 trolleys will be made use of o collect waste from different areas. The decreasing green belt has caused concern amongst the public and he intends to propose measures to improve the green belt”. He further added that Public has chosen him as Mayor and he wants to convey this message to them that people should know that he is here to serve them ,to eradicate their problems. He promises to work equally for the wards whether they be of B.J.P or any other party without discrimination on his part. Anykind of illegal structure coming up will be dealt will strictness and to counter such situations a bolero will be patrolling areas to keep in check such encroachments.
