The strike by Operation Theatre Assistants is totally unjustified and against the interests of patients in PGIMER. However, with the help of faculty, resident doctors, nursing personnel and other categories of staff, the number of surgeries performed today was like any other normal day. Yesterday itself we had prepared the duty rosters so that our OTs function smoothly. The total number of major surgeries performed till 03.30PM were 97 out of the planned 141. Forty surgeries had taken place in the main OT (Gynae, General Surgery, ENT Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Urology and Radiotherapy) out of 54; 34 in the Eye OT out of 60; 8 in the New Emergency OT out of 8; 2 in ACC out of 3; 10,
in APC out of 12 and 3 in Transplant Surgery OT out of 4. Till evening, all the surgeries are likely to be completed as planned.
It has always been the endeavour of administration to resolve genuine demands through meetings/negotiations with the Employees Union/Association. The action of OTA is unwarranted and without any basis.
