CHANDIGARH, NOV 20 : Host St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44 will meet St Kabir School, Sector 26 in the girls semi-final match of the Emily Memorial Basketball Tournament tomorrow at 9.30 a.m. at the St Xavier’s School’s courts here. The New Public School, Sector 18 will cross swords with Sacred Heart, Sector 26 in the girls first semi-final encounter at 8.30 a.m.
St Xavier’s School-44 also qualified for boys semi-final where they are pitted against St Xavier’s of Mohali at 11.30 a.m. while NPS-18 will play St Xavier’s of Panchkula in the first semi-final at 10.30 a.m.
St Xavier’s School of Mohali out- pointed St Stephen’s School, Sector 45 by 52-35 in the boys quarter-final encounter. The winners raced to a 10-point lead (17-7) at the end of first quarter. The second quarter was evenly contested and Xavier’s won this quarter by just one point (12-11). The third quarter-final was a low scoring affair which Xavier’s clinched by 9-4. St Stephen’s put up a good fight in the fourth quarter and in a close race, Xavier’s won by 14-13. Simran scored from all angles to top score with 36 points for Xavier’s. Aman and Devinder contributed seven and six points respectively.
For St Stephen’s Shaganpreet and Gursher netted 12 and 14 points, respectively.
New Public School proved too good for DAV Senior Secondary School-8, once a force to reckon with, by 57-20 points. The NPS trio of Sartaj and Gurloveleen (11 each) and Bhupinder (5) outplayed the DAVSSS-8 cagers in all departments of the game. Chetan (7) and Amit (4) were the main scorers for DAV School.
Hosts Xavier’s prevailed over Shishu Niketan-22 by 27-17. Stanzin (10) and Gurjot (8) were their star performers. Rahul (5) and Hari (4) reduced the margin for Shishu Niketan.
St Xavier’s-44 girls took their appointed place in the semi-final at the expense of St Xavier’s of Panchkula whom they edged out by 57-39. Harneet (11) and Adeline (11) were the principal scorers for the winners. Payal excelled for the Panchkula school by scoring 16 points.
The NPS girls snuffed out the challenge of Carmel Convent, Sector 9 by 44-36. Varsha made all the difference as she top scored with 21 points for the winners. Simran and Aanchal scored nine points each for the losers.
