CHANDIGARH, MAY 12:The Chandigarh Sports Department will conduct the Chandigarh State Open Games in the last week of October this year. Announcing the sports calender for 2008-9, Joint Director Sports, Chandigarh Administration, Dr JPS Sidhu said that 13 sports disciplines have been included in the State Open Games for men and women. The Sports Department will be spending Rs 40 lakh on conducting 16 tournaments, including coaching camps.
Competitions will be conducted in athletics, boxing, basketball, gymnastics, handball, judo, kho-kho, kabaddi, rowing, table tennis, volleyball, wrestling and weightlifting. The estimated budget for the Open State Games is Rs 5 lakh.
The All India Tennis Association Super Series Tennis Tournament will be hosted at the Lake Sports Complex in last week of December. The Administrator’s Tennis Cup for sub-juniors, juniors, and senior (boys and girls) will be organised in the first week of August at Lake Sports Complex. For these two tennis tournament, a budget of Rs 5 lakh has been earmarked.
The Chandigarh Sports Department will also conduct three cricket tournaments. The last week of June will witness the Hot Weather Cricket Tournament for various institutions/clubs affiliated to Chandigarh Cricket Association, at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium. The Inter-School Cricket Tournament for Adviser’s Cup will be organised in the first week of November at the Sector 16 Stadium.
The Inter-College Cricket Tournament for Administrator’s Cup has been fixed for the second week of second week of December.
The All-India Football Tournament for boys Under-17 for Administrator’s Cup has been scheduled for first week of September. The matches will be played at the Sector 42 Sports Complex and the Sector 17 Football Stadium.
The annual summer coaching camps for sub-junior, juniors, seniors (boys and girls) in various sports disciplines commenced at different coaching centres today. Approximately 600 trainees will get benefit of the coaching camps. The second phase of the annual coaching camp will be held in June.

The Administrator’s Cup for Inter-School Athletics (boys and girls) in first week of October at Sector 7 Sports Complex.
