31 Oct : On the Eve of Prakash Utsav – Gurparva of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Martyrdom Day of former Prime Minister of India Mrs. Indira Gandhi, BNCI organized Social Awareness and RTI/ STI Treatment Camp at Indira Colony with the help of Haryana State AIDS Control Society on 31st October, 2009. Butterfly Nature Club of India is an NGO which is implementing Targeted Intervention Project on awareness of HIV/AIDS, RTI/STI and Condom Usage among Migrants of Abhaypur, Budhanpur, Rajiv & Indira Colony.
Ms. Pinki H. Madaan, President BNCI inaugurated the camp. As India has around 2.31 million infected persons, the largest segment being in the 15-49 years category which is also the most productive. She welcomes the Policy for AIDS infected workers recently prepared after detailed consultations with the ILO and NACO. The Policy gives directions to the managers to manage the infection in office setting and to the employees to seek support services and helps create trust among workers who are known to suffer on account of their infection.
On this occasion, she also remembered Smt. Indira Gandhi and her sacrifice for the Social Development of India. She advocated the teachings of Guru Nanak and society must imbibe those values in their daily life for healthy living. The preaching of Guru Nanak i.e. ‘Ek Nari So Jati Hoye’ is still relevant in present scenario in context with HIV/AIDS as the Golden Rule of preventing HIV/AIDS is ABC i.e. Abstinence from sex; Be faithful to your partner; and Condom usage.
Around 300 people visited the camp and 57 were examined by Dr. Nirbhai Singh. Out of which 26 patients were diagnosed with STI/RTI symptoms and rest were diagnosed with general ailments. Free medicines, Condoms and IEC Material on HIV/AIDS were distributed in the camp.
Counsellor Jagram Chaudhary couselled all the patients of STI/ RTI. On the other side, ORW Naresh Kumar & Karamvir Singh was giving Condom Demonstration to the Migrants.
As cases of Swine Flu are increasing these days, so Ms. Monika Gusain, Project Manager gave some precautionary tips to the patients to stay healthy and also on maintaining Personal Hygiene to the migrants who visited the camp. Camp lasted for around 3 hours.
