26 August : Chandigarh. August 25: Today, on musical notes live Band of KB DAV Sr. Sec. School, Sector 7 B, received the educational exchange delegation from Singapore in their School. After a formal welcome and participation in ‘havan’ programme, delegates were taken on a tour of the Class room, labs, library, sports facilities and multi-media lab.
Later Mr. Sivaprakasam Raju & Mr. Lee Soo Miang, Maths teachers from Yishun Secondary School, Singapore demonstrated IT lessons for teaching some topics which are common to both Singapore and Indian Math syllabi as well as a games approach to get weaker students interested in the topic on equations.
For students like Hanis & Lee it was a great learning opportunity to see new places and make new friends at a place 5000 kms. away from their home. Mr. Apollos Induchoodan leader of the delegation and Vice Principal of the School was of the opinion that going by the hospitality and love with which they’re being received all over the city, they found Chandigarh as their another home away from home. And in future they’ll like this relationship to grow more.
Sharing his concerns Mr. SK Setia, DPI (Schools), the Chief Guest of the programme said that this type of student exchange programme promotes a greater understanding of the multiple perspectives of the international issues and increases the competencies of students who will live and work in an increasingly interdependent world. For the first time in the history of mankind the importance of global citizenship has emerged. Student exchange programmes provide a unique opportunity for the students to enrich their international academic experience and widen their career horizons.
In her vote of thanks Mrs. Madhu Bahl, Principal of KB DAV-7 and Regional Director of 11 DAV Schools shared that in the month of October, 2008 they’ll with assistance of Yuvsatta (an NGO) will take a delegation of 35 students & teachers of DAV Schools to Singapore to further strengthen these internationalization of education. Mrs. Bahl further said that she alongwith Mr. Parmod Sharma, Coordinator of Yuvsatta will also accompany the Singapore delegates for a visit to
Parliament House & Gandhi Smriti in New Delhi.
The attraction of the day was a Bhangra show with 200 performers from KB DAV-7 in front of a cheering crowd of School students. The visitors were also brought and they brought the visitors also on their toes to shake legs and dance to the tune of Punjabi dhols.
