The India Post, Chandigarh, 25 August, 2008 :An interactive session was undertaken at GCG-11 between the delegates from Singapore and educationists from Chandigarh. The delegates from Singapor, 37 in number, were headed by Mr. I.Apollos, Vice-Principal, Yishun Secondary School, Singapore. The team included teachers and students from the same school. The programme started with an official welcome by Mrs. Promila Kausal, Principal GCG-11. This was followed by a briefing of the education system in India in general with focus on school education system in Chandigarh by DPI(s) Mr. S.K. Setia. Mr. Setia talked about Chandigarh, the details of the exchange programme and what all needs to be incorporated in the education system to make it all the more practical and efficient.
Mr. Setia gave a formal briefing on how the education system in India works amidst the ranges of the socio economic arenas of the richest of the rich to the poorest of the poor in India, and what all is done to cater to such diversified needs. This was followed by a presentation by Mr. I.Apollos, who started his presentation by "From Garden city to city Beautiful" Mr. Apollos talked in detail about the history of Singapore, its educational system and the internationalization programmes of education undertaken in Singapore for maximum exposure to the positives of the various countries.
Talking about the vision of education system in Singapore, Mr Apollos talked about the 3 tier vision system which includes TSLN (Thinking School, Learning Nation) , I & E (Innovation and Enterprise). TLLM (Teach Less and Learn More). There was a visual presentation on Yishun Secondary School, Singapore which was enhanced by two students from Singapore R. Sapna and Royhana. Dr Iqbal Indge from Department of English, GCG-11 gave an insight into the activities of GCG-11.
In the end there was an interactive session whereby Mr. Apollos very convincingly answered the queries of the audience, which included question like the criteria for entry of child in a school in Singapore, provisions for gifted and special children in Singapore, evaluation criteria, promotion criteria and soon. Mr. Apollos was really happy over the interactive session and passed over his e-mail id. to answer further queries. In the end, Mrs. Saroj Gupta (Dy DEO) presented a vote of thanks.
