Taking stock of the sorry state of garbage collection process resulting in heaps of garbage awaiting collection by MCC lying at every nook and corner of the sector 22 streets, a delegation of the Government Houses Resident Welfare Society, Sector 22 (GH22-RWS) has submitted a memorandum to Dr. Pardeep K. Vassesi, Medical Officer Health (MOH), MCC.
“MCC is not following its own Notification regarding waste collection issued by it on 31.08.2017. The society highlighted that there are still number of lacunas in waste collection process whether from households or from the v6 roads” pointed out Vinod Vashisht, President of the GH22RWS. The Society put forth following points which require immediate cognizance by MCC so that situation can be improved further:
Street garbage collection
· While house-to-house waste collection is moving well, street garbage collection at v6 lanes is in a very sorry state and messed up.
· Heaps of garbage gathered by MCC sweepers daily lay unattended for collection by MCC for at least 5-6 days every week ever since MCC has discontinued services of street garbage collection trolleys about 4 month ago.
· Discontinuation of trolleys happened without having in place any alternative or substitute mechanism.
Households’ door-to-door garbage collection
· While the residents are regularly paying monthly charges to the various waste collectors empanelled by MCC as notified by the corporation on the 31st August 2017, but, certain actions are still missing from MCC’s end as per that Notification.
· Waste collectors are still not provided with free provision of gloves, fluorescent Jacket, mask and cap.
· Free provision of six numbers of bins to waste collectors for collection of garbage in a segregated manner is not visible.
· Certification of all door to door waste collectors not done so far.
“Today a team comprising society members Sushil Malhotra, Jagdish Lal, Surinder Singh, Shobhna Pathania and Vinod Vashisht took a quick tour of the sector 22 and counted more than 100 heaps of garbage awaiting collection alongside sector streets. We hope MCC would initiate necessary actions required to improve the sanitation situation” added Vashisht.
Who are dumping the garbage ? Where are MC Inspector ? Where are people ? Good Story
