Jorawer Singh, Chandigarh, August 24, 2009: The Alumni Committee of MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh organized an Interaction with Ms. Sharandeep Brar, the All India 2nd rank holder in the prestigious IAS Examination, 2009. This event was organized with the intention of encouraging the students to work diligently towards their goals. In an intimate and frank manner, Sharandeep interacted with the crowding and eager students of the college and shared with them the mantras of her success. She guided the students to work consistently and with discipline and not to let the failures depress them. She encouraged the students to make the most of the opportunities available to them and to be confident in their endeavours.
Dedicating her success to the contribution of her parents and mentors, Sharandeep profusely thanked the teachers of MCM DAV College for discovering and promoting her talents and for instilling in her the confidence to scale new heights in her aspirations. Her uncle and mentor, Prof. L.S. Minhas also addressed the students and encouraged them to learn from her example and be role models for their future juniors.
The Principal of the college, Dr. Puneet Bedi felicitated her for her spellbinding success and reminded her that MCM DAV College shall always stand by her in all her attempts as a third parent and a perpetual guardian. Dr. Bedi said that the true Gurudakshina that a student can offer to her institution is in the form of success and continuous loyalty to the alma mater. Dr. Bedi encouraged the students to take Sharandeep’s example and become successful yet humble, career oriented yet balanced in their responsibilities.
In another event, the Department of Sociology of MCM DAV College organized a workshop on HIV AIDS awareness. In the wake of the spreading deadly disease, this event was an effort to curb the menace through awareness. On the occasion , members of AIESEC, world’s largest social organization, interacted with the students and made them aware about the disease: its causes, effects, preventive measures and other related issues. Mr. Gaurav Gaur, Lecturer, Department of Social Work, Panjab University, Chandigarh, a committed worker in the field of AIDS awareness also addressed more than 200 students.
