29 Sep : A function was organised at Sri Guru Gobind Singh College Sector 26 to commemorate the International Youth Peace Fest 2010. The event was an initiative of the college management Sikh Educational Society and the NSS volunteers of the college for the promotion and sustenance of peace all over the world. In the past too, Sikh Educational Society has been instrumental in providing a platform for many such causes and initiatives.
The event was marked by an engaging exchange of ideas by social activists , students and people from different walks of life. Mr RS Ghuman, SP was the chief guest on the occasion while Berni Meyer, popularly called American Gandhi was the special guest of honour. Both of them were welcomed by Principal of the college Prof HS Sohi. Among others present on the occasion were Rani Balbir Kaur, an eminent theatre personality, Dr Ranjit Pawar, Director, Food and Supplies, Mr Jagdish Bains, a renowned social worker and many other people from different nationalities and cultures. The speakers enlightened the young minds with their motivating call for global peace and harmony. Also present to laud the efforts of the volunteers and the social activists was S Gurdev Singh Brar, President, Sikh Educational Society.
The whole idea was initiated by Col. Jasmer Singh Bala,Secretary,Sikh Education Society.The interactive sessions were followed by a cultural programme and a photo session with Berni Meyer. Earlier in the day the NSS unit also felicitated some of the volunteers with red banners. The entire event was envisioned and executed by the tireless efforts of Prof Lakhwinder Dhillon and Prof. Surjit Singh, the programme officers of the NSS wing in the college.
