Chandigarh, March 19:- A sensitization Workshop on HIV/AIDS awareness was organized today by State AIDS Control Society, UT, Chandigarh at Auditorium, Poly Clinic, Sector-22, Chandigarh for 100 Anganwari workers.
Wife of UT Home Secretary, Mrs. Babita Verma inaugurated the workshop. While speaking on the occasion, she said that it has become very important for all of us to discuss about HIV/AIDS among ourselves and guide our children to take the right path in life because the first school starts at home. She said that State AIDS Control Society is making lots of efforts to put an end of this disease.
The first issue of News Letter of State AIDS Control Society was also released during the workshop. Project Director, State AIDS Control Society, Chandigarh, Dr. Vanita Gupta illustrated the scenario regarding the HIV/AIDS prevalence in Chandigarh. She reported that 1276 PLHAs are taking ART treatment from PGIMER, Chandigarh and 470 PLHAs are registered in Drop-in-Centre. She also reported that HIV/AIDS epidemic in Chandigarh has stabilized and efforts are on to start the reversal trends.
An embroidery machine with threads and cloth was also donated by State AIDS Control Society, Chandigarh to the group of People Living with HIV/AIDS with a motive to help them in self employment.
Prizes were given away to children who participated in the Painting Competition held during the Rose Festival, 2009. The theme of the competition was HIV/AIDS. Abhishek Jindal bagged the first prize while Prakash and Tanveer Ansari won second and third prize respectively.
