10 Oct : Present time is the time of information and technique. Media has a important role to play in this scenario. To curb violence there is an important role of Media. The issue related to nation has to be dealt with positive frame of mind and nation security and integration should not be at stake. A thorough review is needed and initiative has to be taken in this regard.
On the 75th Birth Anniversary of Late Sh. Narender Mohan Ji (Former Rajya Sabha Member, Chief Editor & Chairman Dainik Jagran Group), these were the reactions of various speakers spoken in the seminar. The topic of the seminar was terrorism & Naxalism : Role & responsibility of Media. Seminar was organised at Golden Jublee Hall Panjab University by Panjab University Students Council and Progressive Teachers Democratic Front (PU). Union Parliamentary & water resource Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal was the Chief Guest on this Occasion. Remembring Late Sh. Narender Mohan Ji Bansal Said that he had a very clear vision & ability to understand and get into the things. Minister said the issue of FDI (Foreign Direct Investment in Media) was raised in committee by Sh. Narender Mohan Ji. Congress Government had looked into that matter and gave permission to it. He said, Narender Mohan had a clear concept and far sighted vision. Former Union Minister S.S. Dhindsa said that the opposition should not do a job of mere criticism but has to appreciate the good work done by governments. Nation Security and integration is above all kind of politics, so every paty should restraint to do a politics on national issues. He said, those who were nurturing the terrorism, now them selves on the verge of destruction. He quote the example of ISI.
Former Punjab Minister Madan Mohan Mittal said terrorism is funded by foreign land and politicians raise these to have their own benefits. He said media has to put a restraint on sensationalising the news, as this downs its credibility.
Prof. A.K. Sehjpal of Punjab University UIAMS Department sidelined the theory of various political parties and said whatever they raise that is baseless.
Historian Darshan Singh said violence spreads only violence and sufferer remains the common man.
ABVP Leader Sunil Thakur and Ashwathy Rajan also spoke on the occasion.
CPI leader Joginder Dayal said terrorism and Naxalism are two separate issues. terrorism is global one and Naxalism is regional. He said scientific thought is needed to curb terrorism and Naxalism. On media responsibility and role he said, in today’s scenario the issues raised are very less but there is lot of hue and cry on base less issues.
