Dr. Avnish Jolly, Chandigarh, 4th October, 2008 :Department of Tourism, Chandigarh Administration, in association with the Safety Circle held a seminar — “Indispensability of Safety in Hospitality Industry” — at Hotel Chandigarh Beckons on Saturday. The objective of the seminar was to educate hoteliers, restaurant owners and students of Hospitality Industry about the safety of tourists and promotion of safe tourism in the City Beautiful.
Vivek Atray, Director Tourism said that our motto is ‘Responsible Tourism’ and our activities should be balanced and responsible and tourism is increasing rapidly within India and in other countries.
S S Srivastva, SSP , Chandigarh said that Chandigarh Tourism has adopted various measures for the safety and hospitality of the local, national and international tourists. To facilitate their visits, the department offers brochures, key numbers, and road signs among other things and Chandigarh Cops are associated with safety issues. The city has been safe and peaceful for the senior citizens, children, residents and tourists. He also added that the city residents are law abiding and the Chandigarh Police enforces it if somebody tries to violate it.
BPS Bakshi (MD), Safety Circle, also provided inputs on the topic and emphasised on the safety areas and their correlation and significance with each other and Col J S Sandhu, spoke on the Significance of Disaster Preparedness. Manmohan Singh, President, Chandigarh Hotel Association, said that the biggest fear with the hotel industry these days is cyber crime. Every hotelier today is worried about this particular issue as they cannot do away with the wi-fi system. We want the administration to help us. The seminar was attended by hoteliers, restaurant owners and students from Hospitality Industry from the region.
