5 Sep : In the present era of growth and development, it is very are that we think of what we eat. Our body has become a machine working 24 * 7 round the clock, due to which we often neglect our health. As a result, lifestyle disorder like diabetes, hypertension, and obesity are increasing at an alarming rate. However, many diseases can often be controlled with comprehensive changes in diet and lifestyle.
Taking an account of it, Department of Foods and Nutrition, Govt. Home Science College is organizing a seminar on ‘DIET AND LIFESTYLE’.
The seminar included talks by eminent dignitaries who were: Prof. Dr. B. R. Thapa; Head Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology, PGIMER and Mrs. Rekha Sharma; Director, Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics, Diabetes Foundation (INDIA). She is a retired Chief Dietecian, of AIIMS Hospital, New Delhi.
Prof. Dr. Thapa gave a talk on ‘Prebiotics and Probiotics’ in which he talked about the symbiotic relation between the microbiota residing in the human body and its positive effects on it.
Mrs. Rekha Sharma’s talk comprised of the changing dietary patterns of the diet and lifestyle in India today. Her talk included disorders such as obesity, hypertension, dislipidemia, high cholesterol and diabetes where obesity was pointed out to be the grass root problem to any other disorder.
