CHANDIGARH, AUG 6 :Semi-finalists were spotted today in the Air Force Hockey Championship being conducted by 3 Base Repair Depot (3BRD) at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium here. Hot contenders South Western Air Command will face Central Air Command in the first semi-final at 7.30 a.m in the second semi-final Eastern Air Command are pitted against Air Headquarters at 9.30 a.m. tomorrow
The classification matches will be played at 11 a.m and 13.30 p.m SWAC and WAC finished their league programme without losing any of their matches.
South Western Air Command defeated Maintenance Command by 2-0. In a keenly contested match, JP Saini put SWAC ahead with a field goal in the 29th minute. Domnick made it beyond doubt for SWAC by scoring his team’s second goal in the 50th minute. It was SWAC’s third win in succession from three outings.
Western Air Command outplayed Eastern Air Command with a cakewalk 6-1 verdict. Dominating the proceedings, WAC were 4-0 up in the first seven minutes of play. S Singh (1st minute), Kispota (4th) and Satvir Singh (5th and 7th) were the scorers.
Sumeet reduced the margin for EAC in the 9th minute. Major Singh further increased the victory margin of WAC with an 11th minute goal. The winners led 5-1 at half time.
With EAC virtually surrendering, WAC took the thing lightly and one minute after resumption scored another goal through Singh to complete their tally.
Training Command proved too good for Air Headquarters whom they trounced by 7-1. Enjoying territorial supreamcy, TC scored through Ramesh Lakara (3rd), S Kumar (15th), H kumar (23rd), KM Prakash (44th), Nadeem (53rd), AC Billooram (69th) and Harish Kumar (70th). The face-saving goal for Air Headquarters was scored by VC Sharma in the 55th minute against the run of play. TC finished their league programme with two victories and one defeat.
Central Air Command and Southern Air Command played a dull and drab goalless draw.
