CHANDIGARH, JAN 4 : Azzaro Xi defeated Godrej Cricket Club by two wickets in a closely contested and truncated match of the Vth Girish Nayyar Memorial League Cricket Tournament, being organised by the Chandigarh Sports Club, at Government Model Senior Secondary School ground in Sector 32 here today. Due to bad weather the match was reduced to 22 overs a side.
The league phase concluded today and the semi-finalists have been spotted. On January 11, the semi-finals line-up will be: Godej & Boyce XI vs INSCOL XI at 8 a.m and Numero Uno vs Azzaro XI at 12:15 p.m.
Batting first Godrej Cricket Club suffered their first jolt as they lost their first wicket with scoreboard reading 18 in the fifth over. But Manav Asopa and Ajay Bhardwaj realised 70 runs for the fourth wicket. Manav Asopa made 35 runs off 50 balls. Ajay bhardwaj scored a quickfire 33 before being clean bowled. Sumit Hooda chipped in with 27 as Godrej made 122 runs in 22 overs. Gourav picked up two wickets for 20 runs.
Despite losing their first wicket in the opening over, Azzaro XI just managed to overcome the Godren CC total by scoring 126 for 8 in 21.4 overs. Anirudh was the highest scorer with 28 runss off 35 balls. Gurpreet contributed 17. Sumit Hooda got two wickets for 8 runs.

In the second match, a patient knock by Madan joshi (79) enabled City CC defeat Numero Uo XI by 24 runs.
Batting first, City CC were given a fair start by the openers who were associated in a 65-run stand for the first wicket in seven overs. Madan Joshi hit a breezy knock of 79 runss off just 66 balls. He did not receive much support from other batsmen as most of them failed to get to a 20+ score. Ricky Mann was the most effective of the bowler as he picked up three wickets for 38 runs. City CC finished with 166 for 7.
In reply, Numero Uno XI were bowled out for 142 all out in 19.2 overs. Four of their batsmen were run out. Opener Kunal topscored with 57 off just 37 balls. He received good support from Vidyasagar (40). The other batsmen failed to get to even double figures.
