The Gurudwara Election Commission has recommended the Union Home Ministry to hold the General Elections to the SGPC on 8th May 2011 and in reaction to the GEC recommendations the Sehajdhari Sikh Federation has written to the Union Home Ministry to withhold the SGPC Elections.
Sehajdhari Sikh Federation is a religio-political organization registered by the Election commission of India as a Political Party which has already challenged the Notification dated 8 Oct 2003 issued by the then NDA Government’s Home Ministry where lakhs of Sehajdhari Sikhs have been disfranchised from their voting right by amending a Central Act (Sikh Gurudwara Act 1925 ) merely by a simple notification which is against the spirit of Law. The voting right of lakhs of Sikhs has been taken off illegally by violating the Constitutional rights of the Sehajdhari Sikhs which is totally illegal and unjustified. Dr.Paramjeet Singh Ranu the National President of the Federation has requested in his letter that the Federation has filed a Civil Writ Petition No: 17771/03 (Sehajdhari Sikh Federation V/S Union of India and others )which is still pending in the Punjab and Haryana High Court where the matter has been entrusted to the Full Bench and the next date of hearing is 11 March 2011.
It is also mentionable here that another petition namely (HansRaj V/S Union of India) is also pending on the same grounds in the Punjab & Haryana High Court.
The letter states that in view of the said details the Sehajdhari Sikh Federation request the Union Home Ministry to with hold the Elections to the General House of the SGPC till the pendency of the above writ petitions in the Hon’ble Pb& Hry High Court in the interest of Justice and the General Public at large as the Sehajdhari Sikhs constitute the major part of the Sikh religion as on today’s Sikh population.
(Matter already subjudice in Punjab & Haryana High Court)
