Chandigarh, October 2, 2013. Sh. Satya Pal Jain, Ex-City MP and National Chairman of the BJP’s Committee on Legal Affairs & Election Commission Issues, has urged the Central Government and Chandigarh Administration to accept the genuine demands of the thousands of Door to Door Garbage Collection Safai Karamcharis of Chandigarh, to have a re-look at the Contract Labour System and to ensure that the employees engaged by various contractors in different institutions in Chandigarh get the same facilities as their counterparts in government offices are getting.
Mr. Jain was addressing a big gathering of New Door to Door Garbage Collection Safai Union in Maharishi Balmiki Temple in Sector 52, yesterday.
Mr. Jain said that it is unfortunate that the lives of thousands of those workers, who are instrumental in keeping the city clean, itself has become miserable. He said that such contractual employees are paid only a few thousand of rupees per month and all other facilities like leave, provident fund, gratuity, increments, regular scales etc. etc. are denied to them.
Mr. Jain assured them that when BJP comes to power after the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections, he will ensure minimum working and living conditions to all sections of society, including the contract labourer and contract employees.
