The India Post Team, Chnadigarh 26th July : A ‘SANITATION WEEK’, organized jointly by Yuvsatta & Govt. Model High School (TM), Sector 26 and Gandhi Smriti & Darshan Samiti to mark ‘International Year of Sanitation’,
concluded today at the School with plantation of 200 trees with help of LIC Cricket Club. Mr. SK Setia, DPI (Schools) was the Chief Guest on the occasion and Dr. RK Atri, Chief Regional Manager, New India Assurance Co. presided over the function.
Giving information about campaign Mrs. Purnima Vats, Principal of the School said that in this week long programme they involved their students and teachers in various activities related to water borne diseases, sanitation and basic hygiene. Besides cleaning of class rooms and School campus competitions like Painting, Poster, Slogan writing, short stories, elocution contests were also organized. In which various eminent persons like Prof. Ravinder Sharma-the artist, Shri Sandeep Joshi-famous Cartoonist, Shri Sham Lal Sharma, ex-Principal and Mr. Vikramjit Singh-an Environmentalist shared their ideas and thoughts with the School students.
Mr. SK Setia also saw an exhibition of posters, collage and paintings on the theme of Sanitation prepared by the students. Later, addressing the students Mr. SK Setia said that until and unless every students and teacher take upon himself the responsibility of maintaining the cleanliness in the School campus, of not littering around, ensuring usage of dustbins, no one agency or individual can ensure clean School. He further said that maintaining cleanliness becomes all the more important with increasing number of diarrhoea & cholera like cases in the tricity. He further said that Children are always eager to learn and willing to absorb new ideas and thus Schools can become key factor for initiating change by helping to develop useful life skills on health and hygiene amongst them. In which Teachers have to become role models.
Dr. RK Atri, Chief Regional Manager, New India Assurance Co. shared gave an idea of extending Safety Insurance Cover to all Students of the city, in which even with a min. premium of Rs. 1/- per student, not only a medical cover of Rs. 10,000 can be extended to a child, but he’ll also be insured for accident related losses, death and even for the loss of School bag.
Shri SK Setia also honoured three best teachers of the School Mrs. Baljinder, Mrs. Renu and Mrs. Sukhwant with a cash prize of Rs. 500/- each and an autobiography of Gandhiji for maintaining total cleanliness in their classes. Dr. RK Atri presented autobiographies of Gandhiji & certificates to around 110 students who took part in various competitions organized on the occasion.
