Barinder Saluja, Chandigarh, Aug. 29 : Sailing Expedition of No.1 Naval Unit, NCC, Chandigarh was flagged off from Sukhna Lake Chandigarh by Gen.Mohhabat Singh Virk today, in presence of other Army and Naval Officers. Eight Days sailing expedition will cover about 430 Km of Sailing by Boys & Girls cadets of local NCC unit of Navy, whose first phase was flagged off from here today and the second leg will start on 31st Aug. from the Raipur town situated on the banks of river Satlej in the reservoir of Bhakra. Explaining the strategies and idea behind this expedition, Commander G.M Singh said that these types of camps are very much favorable for those Boys and girls who are keen on pursuing their career in Navy. They are put to the rigorous training & are taught how to maneuver the sail boats and prepare them for any of the marine causalities, weather in water or on land. They are trained to be tough and self dependent.
In the same pretext Gen. Mohhabat Singh encouraged the cadets and boosted their moral exactly is manner as if a soldier is going to face an enemy in the war situation. He also appreciated the initiative of the No. 1 Naval unit of NCC Chandigarh to have organised these type of expedition which will give a first hand experience of the Naval activities to cadets. He also added that this type of camps motivate the cadets to join Indian Navy and increase the strength. Also, these type of Camps will enable the NCC to shortlist the cadets for prestigious RD parade camp to be held in Delhi every January.
As explained by Comm. G.M. Singh, the expedition will start its Bhakra voyage from the town Raipur, from where it will sail to Kodra, then to Porohian to Galu & from Galu to Bhakra Dam Reservoir & then to Kosrian where the camp will be culminated after covering 430 km. Along with sailing, these cadets will also have a literary session with the local residents in which they will educate them on the different matters relating to Female foeticide, Tree Plantation, Anti Dowry, Health Hygiene etc.
