CHANDIGARH, OCT 18 :Ryan International Public School, Sector 49 and Baptist School, both of Chandigarh stormed into the final of the second Ess Vee Soccer Cup-2008 for under-15 being sponsored by Samar Estate Private Limited, a company of Ess Vee Group, at the Sector 17 Football Stadium here today.
Ryan International scored one goal in each half to snuff out the challenge of Delhi Public School of Pinjore by 2-0 and Baptish School ended the winning steak of The Banyan Tree School, Sector 48-B by 4-0 in the semi-final matches played on Saturday.
DPS Pinjore did not allow Ryan International School any liberty til their goal fell in the 26th minute. Karan’s powerful long ranger caught DPS Pinjore defence napping. Ryan International kept on their pressure and two minutes after resumption, Piyush converted a cross from the right flank.
The second semi-final between Baptist School and The Banyan Tree turned out to be a one-sided affair. Baptist School gained early lead in the seventh minute when Gurpreet converted a free kick with a powerful shot. They increased their lead in the 14th minute when Karan Chabra unleashed a sizzling shot on the run to baffle the Banyan Tree school defence.
Karan had his hand in Baptist’s third goal also as he sent an accurate minus from the right and Gurwinder Singh converted it with a fine header in the 25th minute. Five minutes later Karan Chabra scored a goal in a goalmouth melee.
In quarter-final matches, DPS Pinjore prevailed over Saupin’s School-32 by a lone goal scored by Rohit Malik in the 6th minute. Ryan International blanked Yadvindra Public School, Mohali by 2-0. Karan scored both goals in the 32nd and 39th minutes.
Mandeep snatched the match winner int he 24th minute as Baptist School beat Stepping Stone by 1-0. In the fourth quarter-final, Banyan Tree defeated St Xavier’s School of Panchkula by 4-2 in tie-breaker after sharing two goal in the regulation period. It was Xavier’s who drew the first blood through Rahul Rana in the 23rd minute while Karanveer restored parity for Banyan Tree in the 38th minute. In tie-breaker, Shahzeb, Hitesh and Karanveer converted their penalties for Banyan Tree while only Rahul could convert his spot kick for St Xavier’s.
