CHANDIGARH, OCT 19 :A fine brace by striker Veera helped Ryan International School, Sector 49 lift the second Ess Vee Soccer Cup after defeating Baptist School, Chandigarh by 3-0 in the final at the Sector 17 Football Stadium here today. Sponsored by Samar Estate Private Limited, a company of Ess Vee Group, the winners were presented a trophy and a cash award of Rs 12,000 by Panchkula Deputy Commissioner R K Kataria.
Runners-up Baptist School got trophy and a cash award of Rs 8100.Delhi Public School of Pinjore beat The Banyan Tree School of Sector 48 by 3-0 in a match to decide third and fourth positions. DPS Pinjore received a cheque of Rs 7100 and trophy while the newly raised Banyan Tree School got a cash incentive of Rs 5100.
DPS Pinjore scored through Abhinav Jain (4th), Sachit (5th) and Alok (34th). Karan of Ryan International School was declared the best player of the tournament. Chetan Rawat of Baptist School, Chandigarh was adjudged the best goalkeeper and Rahul Rana of St Xavier’s School of Panchkula received the best promising player’s award. These players received a cash award of Rs 5100 each.
The final between Ryan International and Baptist School was a well-contested affair. In the first half both teams were evenly balanced. However, on resumption Ryan International enjoyed an upper hand.
Ryan International launched an attack in the 12the minute which culminated into their first goal scored by Karan with a long ranger grounder on the run. The winners struck again in the 35th minute. Piyush initiated the move from the right flank and sent a floater which Veera executed with a nice header to the second pole.
Ryan International rounded off their tally in the 43rd minute. Hard working Rupam sent a diagonal pass to Gagan on the left flank. Gagan got the better of on defender before sending the ball into the box where an alert Veera guided it into the goal.
Speaking on the occasion, the Panchkula Deputy Commissioner complimented the organisers, specially Vinod Bagai, Managing Director of Samar Estate Pvt Limited, for providing an opportunity to the young footballers to hon their skills. He also advised that such sports activities should also be organised in rural area to spot the talent. "The Haryana Government has formulated a sports promotion scheme in the rural area in which all blocks would be covered," said Kataria, who promised the organisers to extend full support, including finances from the Panchkula District Council.
Thanking the chief guest, Vinod Bagai announced that Ess Vee Soccer Cup would be a regular feature.
Among those present on the occasion were Chandigarh Olympic Association general secretary Ravinder Talwar, St Xavier’s School Principal George Shear and Punjab Football Association joint secretary A K Kaushal.
