Chandigarh, May 13:As a part of its Golden Jubilee celebrations, Rotary Club of Chandigarh embarked upon a new project, ‘Hamari Beti’, a campaign against female foeticide in association with Fortis Hospital Mohali.
Pres. Arvind Mehan of Rotary Club informed that Fortis Hospital Mohali has come forward to provide every possible assistance in combating the growing menace of dwindling female sex ratio in our northern region, which is a matter of great concern for the socio-economic and demographic balance of this region.
The Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Mr. Justice Vijender Jain, who is a great votary of this cause and has always been campaigning against this evil in Punjab and Haryana was the chief guest at the function held at Fortis Hospital.
As a part of the campaign, the chief justice unveiled a poster and also released the leaflet for general distribution to the public and formally inaugurated the Pregnancy Helpline on this occasion.
Dr. Ashok V. Chordiya, Medical Director, Fortis Hospital, informed that the Pregnancy Helpline 4699210 shall be manned by a team of doctors and psychologists in Fortis to help the ‘mothers-to-be’ with every possible advice and help, and similarly they can also get in touch with us through email hamaribeti@fortishealthcare.com.
The helpline shall be operational from tomorrow onward from 10am to 5pm, Dr. Ashok said.Earlier an open house discussion was held in which various well-known social activists participated including Dr. Manmohan Kaur, Dr. Mangla Dogra, Ms Superna Malhotra,Ms. Manisha Gandhi, which was moderated by Dr. Manmeet Mann of Fortis.
The Rotary Club and Fortis shall be jointly conducting various programmes to generate awareness amongst the targetted groups
