Residents of various labour colonies today commemorated the labor day. More than 700 people of Pandit colony, Kuldeep colony, Nehru colony, Mazdoor colony, Kajherhi colony and Transit colony (Sector-52), Lal Bhadur Shastri colony gathered and organised a rally on 8 AM in the morning. It needs to be mentioned that just after elections, the administration issued a 21-day notice to residents to evacuate the Pandit colony, Kuldeep colony, Nehru colony, Mazdoor colony as they are going to be demolished afterwards. The residents protested against this unjust action to destroy their livelihood. The labours have raised slogans “Bastiyon ko Ujadna Band kro, Ujdo ke liye gharo ka prbandh kro”, “Ladenge Jeetenge”, “Har zor zulam ki takkar me sangharsh hamara naara hai” .
Sachinderpal Pali, Convener of GHAR ADHIKAR SANGARSH MORCHA said that the destruction of livelihood of thousands will not be tolerated. He opposed the 21day notice that has been served to evacuate colonies. The residents said that administration has always stabbed back on the working masses as they demolished colony no 5 without adequate rehabilitation measures. Additional proofs have been asked to reduce the beneficiaries and the flats allotted are in adequate and of built improperly.
Later on a panel of representatives from various colonies and Ghar Adhikar Sangarsh Morcha (GASM) has submitted to Deputy Commissioner a memorandum regarding the quashing of illegal Notice. The panel has put forth the demands in the memorandum that that there should be no further evictions in the name of development, conditions under the rehabilitation scheme should be relaxed and steps should be taken towards the in-situ developments of these colonies.
