Raj Bala Malik Mayor Municipal Corporation Chandigarh inaugurated a course in Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO) under Skill Training Employment Promotion amongst Urban Poor (STEP-UP) component of Swarna Jayanti Shahri Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY), a self employment scheme of Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation (MoHUPA) run by State Urban Poverty Alleviation Cell Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh.
Shri. S K Bhartiya(Chairman S.V.M), welcomed Mayor and affirmed that the program given by Municipal corporation under SJSRY will definitely transform the lives of students enrolled in this programme. He said that S.V.M will stress on placing these students in best possible manner in the booming B.P.O industry, call centers, marketing etc in the region.
On this occasion, Smt. Malik praised the efforts of Municipal Corporation’s Urban Poverty Alleviation Cell in conducting such job oriented courses for the socially disadvantaged community.
The BPO course will be run by Sarawathi Vidyarthi Mandir (SVM) at Sec- 41 Chandigarh. It will train and place 40 students from Below Poverty Line (BPL) community in BPO sector. These students are from underprivileged community viz. minorities, scheduled caste, other backward classes, handicapped, and windows. The course has been started by corporation by keeping in mind the city employment scenario.
This course will focus on communication skills, developing flair in English language, personality development, voice and accent, soft skills, customer handling skills and marketing skills. This course will give employment scope in BPO industry, call centers, and other customer centric jobs.
