Chandigarh, February 25, 2011. Mr. Satya Pal Jain, a Senior BJP leader and Ex City MP, today described the Railway Budget as politically motivated and prepared keeping in view the coming West Bengal assembly elections.
Mr. Jain said that this Railway Budget is totally disappointing for Chandigarh. All demands of the residents of Chandigarh – like introduction of a new Shatabadi between Chandigarh & Delhi in the afternoon; a new Shatabadi between Chandigarh and Amritsar; new superfast trains from Chandigarh to North-east, South India & Central India; new train from Chandigarh to Haridwar; linking of Chandigarh straight with Rajpura for onward journey to Amritsar, Jammu, Bhatinda, etc.; Construction of over-bridge over two railway crossings situated in Manimajra and Mauli Jagran – have been totally ignored. Metro Train for Chandigarh and surrounding areas is not to be seen anywhere. The announcement made in the last budget of making Chandigarh Railway Station a ‘World Class Station’ remains only an announcement this time as well.
The Central Government has once again shown that the development of Chandigarh is nowhere on its priority list. The local Congress party leaders, including Central Ministers, are only busy fighting either amongst themselves or with one or the other officer. They have no time to plead the case of Chandigarh with the Central Government.
