A General Body Meeting (GBM) of Panjab University Teacher’s Association was held today at 11 A.M in the auditorium of department of Chemistry to discuss its various issues. In the beginning, PUTA President Prof. Jaspal Kaur Kaang, presented the report highlighting various achievements, issues under process and future plans. She informed that the remaining part of the arrears will soon be credited to your accounts as it has already been announced by the Vice-Chancellor. MOU has been signed with the hospitals like Mukat Hospital, Sector 34, Chandigarh; Alchemist, Panchkula; Indus-Multispecialty Hospital, Phase 1, Mohali; Silver Oak hospital, Mohali; Grecial hospital, Mohali; Indus Hospital, Phase 3B-II, Mohali to provide better medical facilities.
Funds for dental parking have been sanctioned and one parking will be functional by the end of April, 2011 and the second will be ready at the end of the year. Once again the President reiterated stressed upon that re-employment should be given to all faculty members. She also stated that street lights in South Campus residential area will be upgraded by the end of this session. PUTA executive has requested the Vice-Chancellor, to construct new houses for the faculty. New space has already been allocated to some departments and the Vice-Chancellor has promised to provide adequate space to the other departments as well. PUTA members met the concerned authorities, Chandigarh Administration to hand over the charge of the Panjab university crèche to the University authorities so that the same can be equipped with modern crèche facilities.
Under the Improvement of Education Head Program, request has been made by the PUTA executive to the authorities to enhance the grant for attending conferences (from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 15,000), for purchase of books (from Rs. 2000 to Rs. 3000) and secretarial assistance (from Rs. 400 to Rs. 500).
PUTA executive has requested the Vice-Chancellor to allocate funds for the upgradation of the community center, construction of rose garden and modern children park and for the overall development of residential areas of South Campus. PUTA President also informed that sincere efforts are being made to disburse the increments to the M. Tech. Faculty as per new UGC guidelines. Talking about the CAS, she explained that the guidelines for the same have been finalized and screening process is likely to begin shortly.
Similarly, screening of applications for the fresh recruitment of some departments has already been completed and the interviews for the same will be conducted very soon. PUTA-GBM has passed a resolution that Dr. Manoj Kumar should be brought back to his parent department at the earliest i.e. University Business School. The recent issues of Dental College and UBS were also discussed in the meeting; PUTA Secretary M. C. Sidhu informed the house regarding the efforts made and support extended by PUTA in both the issues.
