CHANDIGARH- August 12, 2010: A meeting of the elected Office Bearers and Executive Members of Panjab University Teachers Association was held under the Presidentship of Professor Jaspal Kaur Kaang this morning. The members of the executive unanimously decided to co-opt the Fellows of Panjab University, Professor B.S. Ghuman, Professor Keshav Malhotra, Dr. Karamjeet Singh and Dr. Emmunal Nahar as the members of the executive body of the PUTA as per the requirement of the PUTA Constitution.
Later on, new PUTA executive met the Vice-Chancellor in the Committee Room. Professor Jaspal Kaur Kaang, President, thanked the Vice-Chancellor for the part payment of the arrears and demanded that the remaining arrears to be paid to the teaching faculty immediately. She further requested the Vice-Chancellor to implement the New Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) in the interest of the teachers. The office bearers and executive of PUTA assured the Vice-Chancellor that they would extend all possible constructive cooperation to the University authorities in facilitating the implementation of the recommendations of the Task Force of M.H.R.D. and help the authorities in the ongoing developmental projects of the University. In order to signify the decentralization of PUTA, Professor Kaang requested the Vice-Chancellor to approve the participation of the PUTA President or her Nominee in different Committees constituted by the University. Earlier, only the President use to participate in different meetings of the University Committees. The PUTA executive would submit a detailed list of demands within ten days to the Vice-Chancellor for their consideration and implementation.
Professor R.C. Sobti, Vice-Chancellor assured the new PUTA executive that he would be available for all kinds of constructive suggestions, deliberations and dialogues in the interest of the teachers. Professor Jaspal Kaur Kaang extended a vote of thanks.
