25 Oct : An Inter-College Punjabi Lok Geet competition by Govt. College for Girls, Sector-42, Chandigarh organized in the college premises as part of Chandigarh Administration’s Action plan for Gender Sensitization and removing Girl Child Discrimination in which eight city colleges participated. The theme of the competition was celebrating the birth of the girl child, reprimanding the dowry seekers, building the confidence of girls and suggesting means to tackle the problem of gender bias in our society which is a step towards declining female sex ratio in this part of the country .For this purpose, culture is being used as medium through which the message of Gender Equality and the protection of the Girl Child from the systematic extermination could be convey to the society. The programme begin with beautiful choreography on the plight of the students by the host college .
Earlier Principal Mrs.Shashi Malik highlighted the significance of the event in removing the girl child discrimination. On the occasion Mrs. Raji P. Shrivastava, Director Higher Education, Chandigarh Administration was, the chief guest of the function appreciated the college’s efforts in spreading the message of Women Empowerment .She said that the event using culture as the theme was a “beautiful endeavour”. She added that she wish to see all the college students engaged in healthy debate and dialogue on the subject of Gender Discrimination and come out into society prepared to face all challenges with confidence and self reliance. Mrs. Rani Balbir Kaur, an eminent theatre personality was the Guest of Honour. Mrs.Mani Bedi vice principal of the college coordinated the function. The team trophy of the event won by Govt.College for Girls, Sec-11, Chandigarh
